WORK & CASE STUDIES
Camillus Carnivore X
Camillus came to us to help rescue the sales of their most important SKU, The Carnivore. Through consumer research, aesthetic enhancements, functionality improvements and innovative product additions, the Carnivore X was born.
Our first objective was to improve and perfect the knife’s existing features and design. Research revealed that the method with which The Carnivore was previously being assembled had resulted in durability issues. Our approach of overmolding the handle using a different material not only eliminated the durability issue, it also made production easier and improved the ergonomics of the handle.
Then, we sought new innovations that could make the Carnivore X a tool for every bushcraft chore. We added a quadruple edge backbone saw to the top of the blade which, combined with the weighting of the tool, made our design great for cutting, sawing, prying and even digging. We also designed a removable trimming knife that had notches for lashing and hex lug keys in the handle to fit in the sheath of the Carnivore X. The addition of the miniature trimming knife added a high amount of functionality and value to the Carnivore X without raising the cost of the product.
Finally, after modeling the aesthetics to match the edgy, aggressive nature of the product, the Carnivore X received praise from industry professionals and consumers alike for its forward thinking features, ergonomics and versatility. Sales exceeded expectation and the Carnivore X remains one of the company’s top products.
