Don’t Underestimate the Little Guy.

Since 1967, Herbert Hoover Boys & Girls Club (HHBGC) has been providing a safe place for children to learn and grow. Their mission is to inspire and enable youth ages 6 to 18 to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. HHBGC programs are based on the Youth Development Strategy. These nationally recognized programs assist the youth to succeed in school, stay healthy, pursue interests in arts, sports and explore career choices.

The fredsparks team was chosen to re-brand these five core program areas of the Youth Development Strategy for a new marketing initiative to increase local awareness. We were given the opportunity to conceptualize a series of icons that visually displayed the essence of each program. The icon concepts were requested to be energetic, playful, and easily identifiable by children and adults alike. In our initial kickoff meeting Herbert Hoover team leaders identified the five core program areas. They included: Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health and Life Skills, The Arts and Sports, Fitness and Recreation.

The final designs for the icons were utilized in the HHBGC annual report, their Club overview, program brochures and fliers, posters and display boards, other marketing/ promo materials. Additionally, the final concepts would be used as inspiration for an award presented to generous program donors.
